Antoninus et Faustina, templum
Imperial cult temple commemorating the Emperor Antoninus Pius and his wife, Faustina
Reconstructed state: Building as first dedicated

Alternate names: Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, Templum Faustinae, Templum Divi Antonini et Divae Faustinae, Templum Divi Pii

A temple built after the death of the Empress Faustina (141 AD) on the north side of the Forum just east of the Basilica Aemilia. The cult of Antoninus Pius was added at the emperor's death and deification (161 AD). It was a hexastyle, prostyle temple in the Corinthian order set on a high podium. The columns are cipollino. The fabric of the building was constructed of peperino tufa revetted with white marble. It survives in a fair state of preservation because it was converted into a church in the early middle ages.
