Alternate names: Honorary columns
Seven honorary columns were erected parallel to the façade of the Basilica Iulia in the late third century AD. Set on high square plinths the columns supported statues of togate figures, none of which survive. The columns and probably also the capitals were spolia from earlier monuments. The plinths were revetted with marble, probably of two different types. The columns were made of pavonazetto, gray granite, and pink granite.
