Determining Building Footprint
The plan and most of the lower structure are based on the excavated building, much of which escaped destruction.

Reconstructing from Analogy
Proposed finishes and details were from buildings of similar date and function, as suggested by Scientific Committee member R. Scott. The plaster finishes on the exterior and interior of the building are based on the details visible in similar spaces in the Forum of Julius Caesar.

Reconstruction Refocuses Study
The portico is a relatively simple building and presented little of controversy to the scientific committee. But it does belong to an area of the Forum that is often overlooked. The lower level of shops in the narrow area between the base of the Temple of Vespasian and the terrace of the portico rarely appear in drawings or documents of either the temple or the portico.

Roofing Solution
Of interest to Scientific Committee member R. Scott was the detail of the roof and architrave. There were several details explored which entailed site visits and sketches of the the existing built reconstruction.

Sources for Reconstruction
Much of the portico has been reconstructed on site and is well documented. The architrave and many of the columns were sketched on site with Scientific Committee member, R. Scott. Enough of the architectural details of the architrave and columns survived to reconstruct a convincing building.
