C. Plinius Caecilius Secundus

Ut primum me, domine, indulgentia vestra promovit ad praefecturam aerarii Saturni, omnibus advocationibus, quibus alioque numquam eram promiscue functus, renuntiavi, ut toto animo delegato mihi officio vacarem.

When the kind interest of your father and yourself, Sir, promoted me to take charge of the Treasury of Saturn, I gave up my practice in the courts (though I had never taken on cases indiscriminately) so that I could be free to give my whole attention to the duties assigned to me.
