ET AESQVILINE ALITES] Romanae, idest vultures.
Aesquilina porta dicitur ad Sessorium, in qua certus erat locus sepulchrorum. Ibi enim pauperum corpora aut conburi solebant aut proici.
AND ESQUILINE BIRDS] Roman birds, that is, vultures.
The Esquiline gate is said (to be) near the Sessorium, at which there was an established place for burials. For there the bodies of the poor used to be cremated or thrown out.
