Ancient Egyptian temples like Karnak functioned primarily as the home of the gods on earth, protecting statues of the divinities deep within the sacred space. During special occasions, however, the statue of the god emerged from the protection of the temple walls and traveled to visit the shrines of other gods in a highly ritualized festival cycle.
The resources in this section provide information on the ritual barks participating in these festival processions at Karnak, including a discussion of their size and their movement through the temple space.
