Statue of Unknown 13th Dynasty King

Description: The seated statue depicts an unknown Dynasty 13 king. The king, seated on a low throne, wears the royal or divine "false beard" and a nemes headdress with a central uraeus (a rearing snake). The large ears and weary facial expression point to an origin in the Middle Kingdom, when these attributes were adopted in royal statuary. This king may have ruled briefly in Dynasty 13 when numerous minor kings came to the throne in rapid succession.
